Description
This delightful print captures one of the many races that are held during Cowes Week, which is a famous sailing regatta held each year at the Isle of Wight, United Kingdom. This scene is from a race that took place on the Friday. Among the yachts featured are: Fever Glenfiddich (a Class 5 IRC J/97 design yacht, sail number GBR9197R), Italia (a 12 Metre Class Zero IRC carbon fibre yacht, sail number ITA-7, launched in 1990), Marta (a Sigma 38 Class yacht, a one-design boat built to cope with the challenge of difficult offshore sailing conditions, sail number GBR6388T) and Quatrosoloutions Panda Nova II (also a Sigma 38 Class yacht, sail number GBR8275). Although the weather had been fairly bad during the middle part of the week and conditions had been challenging for the competitors, by Friday sailing conditions had improved and Fever Glenfiddich won IRC Class 5 again to take second in Black Group.
This lovely print is a direct reproduction of a painting inspired by a reference photograph taken by sports photographer by Alex Irwin.
