Coral of Cowes

May 4th, 2014

This stunning, highly realistic painting of Coral of Cowes was inspired by a photograph by writer and photographer Nic Compton, who captured Coral as she approached the Needles during the 2013 Round the Island Race, Isle of Wight. United Kingdom. Coral of Cowes is an elegant two-masted wooden yacht that will be returning to the U.K. in 2015. She has an association with the Royal Yacht Squadron (one of the most prestigious yachting clubs in the world) and flew the squadron's burgee for many years.

I painted this large maritime painting over a period of three-and-a-half weeks, using professional acrylic paints by Old Holland on linen canvas. Stunning prints of this beautiful old sailing vessel are now available for the first time at Fine Art America.
