This wonderful print features the schooner Coral of Cowes as she is about to round the Needles during the Round the Island Race, Isle of Wight. The detail and realism and sense of light on the sails in particular is captured perfectly in this maritime scene.
This print is a direct reproduction from a painting inspired by a photograph taken by writer and photographer Nic Compton during the 2013 Round the Island Race, Isle of Wight.
Built in 1902 by White Brothers of Southampton (to Lloyds +100A1 standards) and designed by Fred Shepherd, Coral of Cowes is a fine sailing yacht of solid construction, elegant lines and proven sea worthiness. Not only were the best materials used, but every design detail checked against those stringent requirements at all stages of construction. Her massive construction was indeed unusual for a yacht designed to be raced in the Solent. However, that very high standard, and resultant strength, have undoubtedly contributed to her remarkable state...
