Description
This stylish print captures Act 5 of the Extreme Sailing Series, which was held at Cardiff Harbour, from 22nd to 25th August 2014.
There are more than eleven teams participating in the Extreme Sailing Series. The print features four of them. From left to right are: J.P. Morgan BAR (Great Britain), Gazprom Team Russia, Emirates Team New Zealand, and Alinghi (Switzerland).
The Extreme 40 catamarans are capable of reaching speeds of 30 knots. Developed around 2005, these catamarans are very lightweight and strong and are made of carbon fibre. Each catamaran consists of a boom, jib, mast, mainsail, dagger board, hulls, two rudders, the trampoline and gennaker. The catamarans are 40ft long, 23ft wide, and have a mast length of 62ft.
This print is a direct reproduction of a painting inspired by a reference photograph by sports photographer, Alex Irwin.
