Description
A lovely print of the Oliver buildings, when they were owned by architectural doorset manufacturer company Leaderflush shapland, but originally known as Shapland and Petter. This old factory building, which employed many hundreds of staff from Barnstaple and the North Devon area, is located on a site next to the River Taw - a former shipbuilding yard known as Bridge Wharf. The buildings are now empty and the site has been earmarked for redevelopment, but, as of July 2016, the future use of the factory buildings remains unconfirmed. These buildings have played an important part in Barnstaple's history. Interestingly, my very first job interview was at these buildings (during 1983) when it was known as Shapland and Petter.
